Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree has suspended Chief Deputy Pat Clayton for two days without pay.

The sheriff confirmed the suspension to The Jail Report, but he said the reasons for the suspension would have to come through an Open Records Request since he is treating it like he would any other deputy.

“Something happened awhile ago,” Sheriff Roundtree said. “He was written up and given two days suspension, so he took them today and tomorrow.”

WGAC’s Austin Rhodes is reporting that the suspension involves an accident with Chief Deputy Clayton’s work vehicle. The Jail Report has sent a request for information to the agency’s Public Information Office.

The parents, Raven Octavia Williams, 20, and Carl Lorenzo Taylor, 21, the 1200 block of York Street, Aiken, were arrested and charged with unlawful neglect of a child and possession of marijuana, an Aiken Department of Public Safety report said.

Williams also was charged with giving false information to law enforcement. Taylor was charged with burglary 2nd degree and receiving stolen goods, $10,000 or more, the report said.

Investigators went to the couple’s apartment as part of a burglary investigation. They found the stolen items and also observed illegal drug activity, leading to the seizure of marijuana, the report said.

But even more disturbing was the sight of a baby crawling around the couple’s filthy apartment, chewing on trash from the floor including coins, a Q-tip and a hair weave, the report said.

The apartment had only one bed and when asked where the child slept, Williams said usually in the bed with her and Taylor.

The kitchen was a horror with a large amount of trash in the pantry. Williams said taking the trash out was not the sort of thing she did around the house. Small roaches were crawling on the pantry door and dirty dishes filled the sink.

The baby was placed with friends of Williams by the Aiken County Department of Social Services, the report said.

An Augusta mother made her 13-year-old son sleep outside on a concrete patio for repeatedly missing curfew. The punishment was creative and criminal, according to authorities.

Antonia Folsom, 34, was charged Tuesday with deprivation of a minor.

Deputies were called Tuesday to a fight at 3468 Monte Carlo Drive where the teen told deputies he had been locked out of the house for 16 straight hours, since 9:15 p.m. on Memorial Day.

The boy said his curfew was 9 p.m., but he didn’t come home on time. When he came home, his mother had locked the doors.

“He knocked multiple times. She came to the door and told him that she was tired of him coming home late and for him to find somewhere else to go,” a sheriff’s report says. “She kept all of the doors as well as windows locked so that he could not get in the residence.”

The teen’s older brother gave him a pillow and blanket without his mother’s permission.

“The victim stated that he continued to knock on the door with no response and was forced to sleep on the concrete patio in the back yard,” the report says.

At one point on Monday night, the teen told his mother that he was having trouble breathing, and she reportedly told him “Now you know how I feel,” and she refused to allow him in.

The mother went to work Tuesday morning and still kept the teen locked out.

Deputies contacted the Department of Family and Children Services, and both teenage children were turned over to their grandmother. Folsom was arrested and taken to jail.

A member of the Greenbrier High School baseball team celebrated his state championship by “playing chicken” with his car on Wednesday, authorities said.

In a story first reported by WGAC’s Austin Rhodes, the dangerous game ended in a wreck that sent a passenger to the hospital and both drivers to jail.

Baseball player Connor Hogan, 17 (left), and Richard Swim, 17, (right) were in front of Greenbrier Middle School about 8 p.m.  when they spotted each other and decided to “play chicken,” according to sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

“Mr. Swim crossed left of center and was traveling towards Mr. Hogan.  Mr. Hogan also recognized Mr. Swim and began to drive towards Mr. Swim.  Mr. Hogan veered right at the last second, and Mr. Swim also veered right causing Mr. Swim’s vehicle to T-Bone Mr. Hogan’s Vehicle,” Capt. Morris said in a statement.

Swim had two passengers:  front passenger Samantha Newman, 17, and Millege Smith, 17. Newman was transported to University Hospital with visible injuries on her head while Smith was not injured.

Both drivers were charged with aggressive driving, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Both were given a $3,300 bond.

Hogan is a member of the Greenbrier baseball team, which won the state championship by beating Gainesville.

A prominent Augusta attorney is facing hit & run charges after allegedly hitting a vehicle in the parking lot of French Market Grill and then leaving.

Michael C. Garrett, 68, of Augusta, was arrested May 21st for a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Garrett told The Jail Report he didn’t realize he scratched the other car and returned the moment he was made aware of the accident.

According to a sheriff’s report, Garrett backed into a 1998 Toyota Corolla while leaving the restaurant at 1:45 p.m. May 21 in his black 2014 Cadillac XTS. The Cadillac’s rear bumper struck the Toyota’s front fender and then Garrett kept driving.

A witness said she heard the Toyota’s driver “laying on the horn” as the Cadillac backed toward her car. After the impact, the witness said the other driver tried to flag him down.

An employee of French Market Grill provided a deputy with Garrett’s name and phone number, saying he was a regular customer and she knew the listed vehicle in question was owned and driven by him.  The deputy called Garrett and he returned to the parking lot. He was later arrested.

Garrett says he would never leave the scene of an accident.

“I didn’t know I hit her. A policeman called and said come back. I returned,” he said. “(I) didn’t get a chance to talk to her. But I did get to see the damage. It was just a scratch like mine is. It is still something I am responsible for.”

Garrett said he was disappointed in the deputy’s decision to arrest him. He mentioned that he has some hearing problems, but he said he takes full responsibility for causing the wreck.

“What you do is apologize and you make the injured party good,” he said.

According to the attorney’s website, Garrett’s practice is limited to the practice areas of white-collar criminal defense and criminal defense. His officers are located in the Wells Fargo Bank Building on Broad Street in Augusta. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law and is former president of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (GACDL).

The shoplifter then intentionally tried to strike the employee while backing up and racing out of the parking lot.

A man who screamed the N-word against black employees of the Grovetown Dairy Queen and threw his sandwich at the black manager was arrested for public drunkenness on Saturday, according to authorities.

(This is one of many stories in this week’s Jail Report. Cover image: http://thejailreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Cover-Issue-701.jpg)

In the Dairy Queen incident, Michael Cleavenger told deputies “that is just how he talks.”

But it wasn’t his ugly and racist attitude that got him arrested. It was his public drunkenness that led a sheriff’s deputy to take him to jail.

According to a sheriff’s report, the incident began at 3 p.m. Saturday when the 39-year-old suspect stumbled into the restaurant on Jimmie Dyess Parkway.  According to the manager, Cleavenger was “very rude toward her and all of her black employees.” She said the suspect came in the store drunk and attempted to order one of everything on the menu.

Once his food was ready, he came back up to the counter and opened the wrapper on his burger and threw it at the manager, a report says. He then proceeded to call her stupid and told all the African-American employees that they were “n*****s”.

A black customer eating with his family got up and confronted the man for his language in front of his children, and a physical altercation occurred. The suspect eventually left and the store called the sheriff’s office.

Deputies found Cleavenger in back of the store drinking a beer. When he saw deputies, he quickly tried to hide the beer in the bushes.

“He had a small laceration on his face and he told me he used racial slurs at the employees because that is just how he talks,” the deputy wrote in his report.

He was cited for public drunk and advised not to be on the property in the future. Deputies could not find the customer who fought him, but employees said the customer did not appear injured.

These three people are being sought as “persons of interest” in the theft of $800 cash from a customer sitting near tham at the Grovetown Cracker Barrel on May 20.

The victim said she was sitting at the restaurant with her purse hanging over her chair. She said these suspects sat down at the table near her chair and kept bumping her chair. She didn’t think too much about it until she noticed the money missing later, a sheriff’s report says.

Oddly enough, this trio was only in the restaurant for 14 minutes and parked oddly in the lot: On the far side of the north parking lot. They back in in a black 4-door sedan.

Felicia Gilmore, 28, of Pauline Street, was convicted Monday of one count of cruelty to children – causing excessive physical or mental pain.

According to a sheriff’s report, the woman’s 13-year-old son notified them in May 2014 that his mother had beaten him with the fan belt. Deputies observed “excessive lacerations on his left arm, upper and lower back,” the report says.

The teen also said his mother had beaten her 9-year-old son, who was found with lacerations that were swelling on his legs, arms and back.

“The marks on both juveniles were found to have left a pattern fro the fan belt,” the report says.

Deputies called the Department of Family and Children Services, and both boys were taken by ambulance to GRU Hospital. Gilmore was taken into custody on child cruelty charges and the children were placed with other relatives.

According to a sheriff’s office website, she was convicted of one count child cruelty while the other count was dismissed. An earlier report should not have implied this was a new arrest but the sentencing. She is now being held in the Columbia County Jail.

An Augusta man who was accused of seeking sexual favors from his boss’s 14-year-old daughter has been arrested by Columbia County authorities.

Stephen Andrew Forbes, 35, of Ashland Drive, Augusta, has been charged with “obscene electronic contact with a child,” according to a sheriff’ report. The victim is from Grovetown.

The suspect’s boss told authorities that his daughter approached him last month and said Forbes had sent her a Facebook message seeking oral sex from her, a report says.

The father asked his daughter if anything else had happened at the lake May 15 when the father left his employee in charge of his teenage daughter and younger son during a day of boating and camping.

The daughter claims Forbes followed her when she went to take a shower and then asked her to take a shower with him. When she complained about being hot at the campsite, Forbes responded, “Take off your clothes then.”

The girl also claims Forbes asked her to smoke marijuana with him.

“Several lewd comments were made by Stephen and she declined and ignored all of them due to Stephen being one of (her father’s) employees and not wanting to get him in trouble,” a sheriff’s report says. “Once she began receiving messages requesting oral sex, she decided to notify (her father) of what was happening.”

A warrant was issued for Forbes’ arrest and he was arrested June 3.

An Aiken County deputy accused of accidentally killing his wife Saturday night had guns all over his house when the incident occurred, including an M4 rifle in the bathroom where the woman was found dead, according to a North Augusta public safety report released Monday.

Deputy Matthew Blakley has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 24-year-old Candace L. Blakley following the tragic death at 1901 Coulter Drive in North Augusta. SLED is in charge of the investigation.

A North Augusta report describes a dramatic scene at the home when officers arrived to a “shooting incident” at 7:36 p.m. Saturday:

The off-duty deputy came running at Officer Travis Smith with blood on his hands, saying he had shot his wife on accident and she needed help. Officer Smith ordered Mr. Blakley on the ground and held him until other officers arrived.

While being held, Mr. Blakley kept repeating his information over and over: “Deputy Blakley. A24. Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.”

After a NADPS lieutenant and corporal arrived, Officer Smith and Cpl. Buddy Rowland went into the home and yelled out to see if anyone else was in the house. Matthew Murphy came out with blood on his hands. He identified himself and said he had tried to do chest compressions on the woman inside, but she was dead.

The victim was found in the bathroom tub with “an apparent gunshot wound to the head”. Cpl. Rowland couldn’t get a pulse from Mrs. Blakley and secured the scene.

Officers looked around the small house and observed “several firearms throughout the residence along with an M4 rifle in the bathroom where the victim was,” the police report says. “Officer observed a spent shell casing on the bathroom floor along with a broken wedding band.”

Mr. Blakley was subsequently fired from the sheriff’s office, where he had been employed since November. He was currently attending the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy.

According to his Facebook page, the suspect was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and had married his wife in July 2012.

Baby Dies in Martinez While Sleeping with Mom & Boyfriend; Drug Charges Filed

Here is your first look at 6-month-old Bentley Reeves, the Martinez child who died overnight while sleeping in bed with his mother and his mother’s boyfriend.

(For other crime news, pick up this week’s new Jail Report. Cover image: http://thejailreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Cover-Issue-703.jpg)

Authorities are filing meth and marijuana charges against mother Lexis Russell and Jacob Harris while they investigate the circumstances of the death at the mobile home at 4222 Wheeler Road, authorities said.

An incident report says the couple fell asleep with the child at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the mother woke up at 4:30 am. And found the baby wasn’t breathing. She screamed and woke up the boyfriend, who tried CPR unsuccessfully.

This morning, The Jail Report spoke to the child’s grandmother  – Lill Reeves –, who said her son Jeremy Reeves is the child’s father. She said he was working out of town this week at Auburn University, and Ms. Reeves called him to tell him his son had died. He just arrived home at lunchtime Wednesday and is taking the death hard, she said.

Ms. Reeves described Bentley as a “beautiful, happy baby.” She called him “Bent Bent,” a child who entered this world on New Year’s Eve and was just starting to roll around this month. The child’s grandmother also described a dysfunctional family where drugs and short relationships were common.

Jeremy Reeves had a baby with Lexis Russell six years ago, and then they broke up and Lexis had a baby with another man. Then Jeremy got back together with her and they had Bentley, but they had recently broken up again and she got together with Jacob Harris.

Ms. Reeves said she is not surprised the mother is facing drug charges because they suspected she recently started having a relapse.

“We found out she was having (drug) problems again. And we hadn’t had a chance to talk to her,” she said.

Jeremy Reeves tried to talk to her about it before he left for work out of town.

“He tried to get her to straighten up and take care of the baby,” Ms. Reeves said.

According to Ms. Reeves, Lexis called her early this morning about the child not breathing, and she rushed over there while investigators were working the case. She said Lexis told her she wished she had put the baby in the crib, but she was waiting for her 2-year-old son to go to bed and fell asleep.

Sheriff’s officials say they found marijuana, meth and Spice in the bedroom, where the baby was sleeping. That led to the drug charges against the mother and her boyfriend.

Authorities now believe a Martinez baby was intentionally suffocated by his mother’s boyfriend this week and have filed murder charges in the death of the 6-month-old boy.

Lexis Russell and boyfriend Jacob Harris are both charged with murder in connection with the death of 6-month-old Bentley Reeves, sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.

Authorities believe Harris suffocated the baby because he was tired of hearing the child screaming and crying.

The couple are already in jail on charges related to the meth, marijuana and spice that was found in the couple’s trailer at 4222 Wheeler Road, authorities said.

Russell initially told police she woke up at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and found the baby wasn’t breathing. She screamed and woke up the boyfriend, who tried CPR unsuccessfully.
