A Columbia County suspect wanted for felony warrants was killed Monday afternoon during a chase with deputies.

Around 4:15 .m., the sheriff’s office received information that a Chevrolet Malibu was being operated by 41-year-old Shawn E. Threatt of Milledgeville.  He had several active felony warrants through Columbia County, Grovetown, Waynesboro, and the Georgia Department of Parole.

“The pursuit began at Appling Harlem Road and West Forrest Street.  It went over to North Fairview Drive, and eventually went south on Sawdust Road,” sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said.  “Deputy O. Gutierrez was approaching the pursuit from the direction in which it was heading, and ended up being struck by the fleeing vehicle.”

Threatt was transported to Doctor’s Hospital by Gold Cross and died there.  Deputy Gutierrez received minor injuries from the accident and was taken to the hospital by CCSO personnel for an evaluation.

Threatt was arrested last month for domestic violence in Evans.  On Jan. 16, deputies were called to Tanner Oaks Driver for a battery. The wife said she and Threatt got into an argument after she went to pick up their teenage daughter from school early because she was sick.

While heading to school, Threatt sent the wife several messages asking where she was and why she was at the school. The wife arrived home and Threatt arrived shortly after. The pair then continued to argue. The wife told Threatt to go back to work but he refused. Finally, Threatt spit in the wife’s face and left.

The wife captured the incident on video and the teen daughter witnessed the incident.

When questioned by deputies, Threatt denied spitting in his wife’s face.
