Alvin Rivers, a 32-year-old Thomson man known for his dance moves, passed away on Friday, three days after being shot at an Augusta convenience store.

Rivers was shot around 2 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Exxon gas station located at 2601 Gordon Highway. He was taken to Wellstar MCG Health, where he later died at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not yet provided any details on the case, including a suspect or motive.

Rivers was widely celebrated for his passion for dance, and tributes poured in from friends and fellow dancers. Thomas Robinson reflected on their shared memories, recalling how Alvin recently visited his studio and danced with joy. “I miss those golden days when things felt simpler,” Robinson wrote, adding, “I know you’re about to light up the ballrooms in heaven.”

Jeremy Strowbridge remembered Alvin as a “dancing machine,” while Poochie Norman simply called him the “dance king.” Spontaneous Lewis expressed grief, saying, “I’m so lost for words, I’m shocked and hurt. I love you forever, friend. All you liked to do was have fun and dance.”

Zephadiäh Mason shared that Alvin’s energy and passion were deeply inspiring, believing that his legacy would live on. “You’re now teaching the angels how to do an 8 count,” Mason wrote, “I’ll miss your energy, sass, and love, but I know you’re in a better place.”
