‘America’s Got Talent’ Singer Busted in Evans for Alcohol-Fueled Assault on Family

Skilyer Hicks, a local singer who appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2013, was arrested last week after an alcohol-fueled assault on her relatives in Evans.

Hicks, 18, allegedly snuck out of her grandmother’s Evans home at 11:30 p.m. Monday and was brought back three hours later by an unknown male. She was passed-out drunk, her grandmother Paula Rae Harrington said. The teen had to be moved into the garage because she was too intoxicated to be moved into her own bedroom. The home is located on Deercrest Circle.

“Paula stated there is prior history of alcohol abuse with Skilyer,” a sheriff’s report says.

When Skilyer woke up Tuesday morning, she was extremely angry and yelling, the report says. She eventually fought with her entire family, injuring many of them, including her older sister, her aunt and her grandmother.

A sheriff’s report described an out-of-control teenager who was pulling hair, pushing her grandmother and cursing.

When she pushed her 65-year-old grandmother, the victim fell backwards over a laundry basket and landed into a small chest of drawers breaking off the drawer knob. Harrington sustained red marks on her chest and a raised contusion on the left side of her back.

The older sister was finally able to restrain Skilyer and held her until she calmed down. “She let Skilyer get up and she went to her bedroom locking herself in,” a report says.

Paramedics arrived after deputies were called. “Skilyer appeared disoriented but was able to provide a breath sample which registered .126 on the AlcoSensor,” a report says. “Skilyer was not able to fully recollect what events had just taken place.”

Skilyer was charged with three counts of simple battery – family violence.

She has stayed in the Columbia County Jail for eight days, and she remained there on Tuesday, unable to make a $4,800 bond.

About Skilyer

Skier Hicks, formerly of North Augusta, is a self-taught guitarist, singer, and songwriter. When she was 13 – about a year after the death of her father – an acoustic guitar she had received a few years before made its way back into her arms. That night, she began playing. Three days later, she began writing songs.

She has performed at nationally-recognized Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, where she has opened for artists Lera Lynn, Barnaby Bright, Carrie Rodriquez, and Charlie Mars.

Her album “Brand New Day” was released in early 2013 and is now available on iTunes.

Skilyr Hicks’ audition for America’s Got Talent consisted of singing “Brand New Day,” an original song, while playing the guitar. Judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandell all voted yes, sending her to the Vegas round.

She was sorted into the “Female Singer” category in the Vegas Round, but her performance of “Second Chance,” an original song was not strong enough for the judges to send her to the Quarterfinals.

Augusta Man Takes Road Rage to a New Level & Fails…

An Augusta driver got the violent end of a road rage confrontation after he followed the other driver to his home, authorities said.

Tony Holloway (pictured at right) suffered a broken jaw after getting punched in the front-yard feud Saturday on Virginia Avenue.

The driver who he had followed there –  Travares Mack – was also arrested along with Mack’s uncle, Sean Shubert, who tried to intervene and struck Mack with his vehicle, authorities said.

The road rage incident started Saturday afternoon on Gordon Highway. Mack said Holloway made a sudden lane change in front of him that forced him into the Budget Inn Express parking lot, instead of turning on Tubman Home Road.

Mack stopped in the hotel parking lot and saw Holloway pull over in the parking lot of Lawson’s Audio. Mack claims that Holloway got out with a knife and cursed him.

Mack (pictured at right) got back into his vehicle with his girlfriend and drove home. Once there, Holloway pulled up and jumped out of the vehicle with the knife again and walked into his yard, a sheriff’s report says.

Suddenly, Mack’s uncle drove up after hearing about the confrontation, and he hit Holloway with his car. Holloway “fell onto his hood and then rolled onto the ground,” a sheriff’s report says.

After that, Mack punched Holloway several times in the face, according to witnesses. Mack also kicked and punched the man while he was on the ground, a report says. One witness claims Mack struck the man with his crowbar.

Holloway, 30, was taken to Augusta University Medical Center after the attack, but a sheriff’s report says his jaw could be fractured. He was later taken to jail and photographed with bandages surrounding his face. He was charged with simple assault and an unrelated terroristic threats charge from last year.

Mack, 37, was charged with simple battery. Shubert, 46, was charged with reckless conduct.

Thieves Take Four Fitbits from AT&T Store in Grovetown

Do you know these people? Authorities say they walked into the AT&T store in Grovetown on April 20 and stole four Alta Fitbit wristbands.

The trio – two men and one woman  – were sneaky. The woman talked to one of the AT&T employees while one of the men took the wristbands from a display and hid them in the other man’s pants.

The store manager didn’t realize the theft until she noticed the empty display. She reviewed the surveillance video and saw these people pulling the con.

If you know who they are, please call the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at 706-541-2800.

Thanks.

Augusta Man Bruises Girlfriend’s Child Just a Month After Moving In

Augusta Man Bruises Girlfriend’s Child Just a Month After Moving In

Another Augusta man is accused of beating up his girlfriend’s child when left alone with the boy.

This time it was Terrance Camron Morgan, who was watching his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son at a home they have shared for a month.

When the child’s mother returned from work at Kimberly-Clark, she discovered marks and bruises all over her son’s body, according to a sheriff’s report.

“She then discovered that there were blisters on his penis, both of his legs along with visible belt marks on his lower back, buttocks, and legs,” the report says. “When she confronted Terrance about what happened, he stated that he whipped (the boy) because he almost pulled the TV down.”

The victim’s mother said she had been dating Morgan for a year but only living with him on 2nd Avenue for about a month.

After the discovery of the injuries, the girlfriend kicked Morgan out of the home and took her son to University Hospital for treatment.

“While at the hospital it was discovered that (the boy) had additional belt marks under his arm and blisters on his toes,” a sheriff’s report says.

Hospital personnel notified the Department of Family and Children Services of the incident.

Morgan, 23, was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree.

Previous case. Two weeks ago, an Augusta man was charged with the same crime for whipping his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son hard enough to break his belt buckle.

In that April 13 case, Christopher Mize (pictured) was arrested for first-degree child cruelty. The child’s mother told authorities that she couldn’t find anyone to watch her son before heading to work at a local hotel. Her own mother usually watched the child but was unavailable. So she trusted him to Mize, who she had been dating for a month.

When she picked up her son just after midnight, Mize confessed to breaking off his belt buckle while spanking her son. He told his girlfriend that the boy “had to be tougher,” according to the sheriff’s report.

The boy suffered bruises on the left side of his face, legs, buttocks and torso. The bruises on his left leg had the shape of fingers, and he had a swollen top lip.

Mize was arrested but has since bonded out of jail.

North Augusta Woman is Raped by Burglar; Victim ID’d Suspect by Name, Cops Say

An armed man broke into the home of a North Augusta woman and raped her Tuesday night after she returned home, authorities said.

Suspect David Henry Quiller Jr. also played a bizarre game of Russian Roulette and made the victim lay in the bed with him for hours, according to a sheriff’s report. The suspect finally left in the morning.

The 32-year-old victim called the sheriff’s office and identified Quiller by name, according to sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah.

Quiller, 45, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his home on the 1200 block of Layback Way. The charges: Criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, burglary, kidnapping, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

Authorities will not disclose where the rape occurred to protect the identity of the victim, and they will not disclose how the victim knew the suspect, possibly for similar reasons.

According to a sheriff’s report, the woman returned home at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, undressed and began taking a bath. Suddenly, at 11:45 p.m., Quiller entered her bathroom with a revolver pointed at her and ordered her out of the bathtub. He then raped her in a rear bedroom.

Quiller next removed all the bullets from his revolver and replaced one. “Quiller spun the chamber and pointed the revolver at the victim while pulling the trigger,” a sheriff’s report says. “Quiller also did this to himself.”

The gun did not fire. Quiller made the victim lay with him in the bed until 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The victim’s mother texted her to say she was picking her up for work, and the suspect left.

It is unclear how the suspect got inside the home, but the victim told investigators that he must have been in the house when she returned home since she used the deadbolt after returning. The deadbolt was not used while she was gone.

Quiller remains in the Aiken County Detention Center.

His record. Quiller was arrested for criminal sexual conduct in 2008, but Aiken County prosecutors suddenly dropped the charges within a few weeks, according to online records.

On a Facebook page for the suspect, he posted a photo of him from 2001 that was taken in a Georgia prison. (Click on photo to see message)

In Georgia, he was sentenced in 2001 to five years in prison for habitual impaired driving and more. In recent years, he has served small amounts of time in jail for obstruction of officers, fleeing police, reckless driving, criminal trespassing and more.

2 Pedestrians Killed by Car in Augusta; Victims May Have Been Drinking

Alcohol may be a contributing factor in the deadly wreck that killed two pedestrians on Sunday night in Augusta, authorities said.

Cory J. Dimmick, 28, of Mike Padgett Highway, Augusta (pictured), and Michael O’Grady, 19, of Horseshoe Road, Augusta, were both struck and killed around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, according to Coroner Mark Bowen.

“Dimmick and O’Grady were in the right through lane of the northbound side of the 4600 block of Mike Padgett Highway,” the coroner said in a press release. “A Nissan Maxima traveling northbound struck Dimmick and O’Grady. Both O’Grady and Dimmick died from blunt force trauma and no autopsies will be done.”

Bowen said that area was not well lit and the pedestrians may have been drinking before the crash.

“It is believed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor on the pedestrians,” Bowen said. “Toxicology test for drugs and alcohol will be done.”

Information on the driver and possible charges have not been released.

University Hospital Nurse Steals Patient Medications!

A nurse at University Hospital has been indicted by a grand jury for stealing patient medication, according to authorities.

Michael Rearden was recently arrested on 33 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by theft.

The case against Rearden is staggering, according to a sheriff’s report.

In December, UH Pharmacy Director Marie Jackson notified the sheriff’s office that Rearden had recently been fired for stealing patient medications. The hospital had records showing Rearden taking Morphine, Lorazepam, Endocet and Xanax.

“In total, there are 70 doses which show Rearden taking the dose and either not recording giving the prescription to the patients, or claiming the doses were wasted,” a sheriff’s report says. “

For more crime news, pick up this week’s new issue of The Jail Report sold in local convenience stores.

University Hospital uses an automatic dispensing system, which requires employees with proper authorization to scan their fingerprint to receive medication, then to scan the patient’s wrist bands when administering the medication.

But on 19 different days, Rearden took 70 doses of controlled substances.

The hospital confronted the nurse about the medications and he denied taking them. He even agreed to take a voluntary drug test.

It came back positive for morphine, according to a sheriff’s report.

“Rearden continued to state he never took the medication and refused to admit to the hospital that he had a drug addiction, which resulted in his termination,” the report says.

The thefts were reported to the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Inspector, who informed them to report the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.

University Hospital officials did not return our message seeking comment on the arrest and use of patient medications.

Illegal Alien Raped Young Girl Several Times at His North Augusta Home, Cops Say

An illegal immigrant in North Augusta was charged this week with forcibly raping a young girl several times at his home.

Higinio Diaz-Ventura, 29, of 1130 Weston Street, North Augusta, was charged Thursday with criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the first degree and criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

He is being held for immigration officials, according to the jail website.

A week ago, a woman called North Augusta police to say her child recently confessed that Diaz-Ventura had sexually assaulted her at his home several times. The sexual assaults allegedly happened between 2014-2016 when the girl was 4 to 6 years old. A police report labeled the crime as “forcible rape.”

North Augusta investigators will not say how the suspect gained access to the girl or his relationship to her, perhaps to protect the identity of the victim.

Previous arrests. Diaz-Ventura has seen the inside of local jails before, getting arrested in Aiken County in 2010 for driving without a license and for driving without a license or insurance in Richmond County in 2013 (right mugshot). He was given probation in Richmond County and fines in Aiken County, and he was released in both cases.

Readers of AugustaCrime.com are already posting comments after his arrest was posted Thursday:

  • Amy Wagner: “One less child would be harmed if his a** was deported sooner!!!!”
  • C.T. Pryor: “He shouldn’t have been here in the first place to commit the acts.”

Surprise! Augusta Killer Has a Long Rap Sheet & Little Prison Time

Is another victim dead in Augusta because our justice system won’t hold drug dealers and repeat offenders accountable with serious prison time?

It sure looks that way.

On Monday, Richmond County authorities announced the arrest of 31-year-old Rodney “Red” Ivey in the murder of 82-year-old Armand Peck.

The death was part of a Monday shooting spree in which Ivey allegedly shot up the Allen Homes Housing Area and the Cedar Grove Apartment Complex.

Details of the murder. At 1:42 p.m. Monday, authorities responded to the 3900 block of Lake Erie Dr for a vehicle fire. Officers checked the address where the  vehicle was registered and found the owner Peck dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Ivey was quickly  linked to the death and vehicle fire, authorities said.

Ivey was also linked with the two earlier shootings Monday at 526 Richmond Hill Road West and 1100 Peters Road. Authorities issued a wanted poster on Ivey and he was captured within hours.

The suspect now sits without bond in the Richmond County Jail on these charges: murder, arson, aggravated assault 2x, armed robbery, weapon possession x3, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon x3.

Who is Ivey? Let’s just say that the sheriff’s office is familiar with the man called “Red,” and so are local prosecutors.

But despite a half-dozen arrests for drug possession and other offenses, judges kept giving him a break with short stints in jail and probation. In the most recent case from a year ago he was accused of driving drunk with a suspended license and cocaine in the vehicle.

Despite his record of previous drug offenses and probation, Judge James G; Blanchard Jr. gave him credit for 28 days in jail and set him free on more probation and some fines.

In 2011, Ivey was arrested for dealing marijuana, possessing cocaine and fighting cops. In that case, prosecutors dropped the obstruction charge and allowed him to plead down from dealing dope to possessing dope, a less serious charge. Judge Sheryl Jolly gave him credit for four months in jail awaiting trial and set him free on probation.

He also had arrests in the last five years for criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, possession of meth with intent to distribute and more.

Note: If you have a photo of Armand Peck you would like to share, please text it to The Jail Report at 803-487-3224.

Grovetown High Senior Threatens to Shoot Up Graduation

A Grovetown High senior was arrested last week after threatening to “shoot up the school” when a teacher asked him if he was looking forward to graduation.

De’jon Parker, 18, was charged last Thursday with terroristic threats and acts.

It was first thing in the morning when Parker stopped by the classroom of a language arts teacher.

“Are you looking forward to graduation?” the teacher asked.

“Yeah, I’m gonna shoot up the school,” Parker allegedly replied.

The teacher expressed shock over the remark, and the student added, “Nah, only white people shoot up schools.” He then laughed, according to a sheriff’s report.

The teacher told authorities that she was in disbelief over the remark from Parker, a member of the GHS football team. She told the student to proceed to class and explained that she was required to report his comment.

As Parker left the classroom, he repeated in a loud voice, “I’m gonna shoot up the school!” Several students in the classroom gave statements that they had heard the student’s remarks, a sheriff’s report says.

Parker was arrested at school the same day.

We’ve reached out to the Columbia County School system for the outcome of the student’s arrest. The Jail Report has asked whether the student will be banned from graduation.

Trenton Man Hangs Himself in Aiken County Jail After DUI Arrest

A Trenton man was found hanged in the Aiken County Jail on Tuesday night after getting arrested a third time for DUI, authorities said.

Adam Crow, 36, was discovered hanged in his cell Tuesday night. He had been booked earlier in the day for DUI 3rd and various other charges after his arrest by the S.C. Highway Patrol. He is shown above from his Facebook page and at right from a mugshot.

The hanging death is being investigated by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and SLED. Mr. Crow was in the cell alone at the time of the incident.

In addition to DUI 3rd, he had been charged with disorderly conduct and no proof of insurance.

Here’s an official statement from Capt. Nick Gallam, who oversees the jail:

“The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has called in South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office to conduct an investigation into an inmate’s death at the Aiken County Detention Center.  An inmate was found hanging in a cell in the intake area of the facility.  EMS was notified while deputies and onsite medical staff performed life saving measures until EMS arrived.  The inmate was pronounced deceased on scene at 9:43 pm.  As part of procedure, SLED has been called in to conduct an investigation.”

New Ellenton Man Killed in Tuesday Night Shootings; Second Victim in Hospital

Aiken County authorities are struggling to find witnesses in Tuesday night’s shooting near New Ellenton that left one man dead and another man injured.

Devonte Green, 22 (pictured), was shot multiple times Tuesday night near a residence on Dry Branch Road, Coroner Tim Carlton said.

“He along with three other men were in a vehicle preparing to leave for work when the shooting occurred,” the coroner said. “He was pronounced dead at Augusta University Medical Center at 11:19 p.m.”

Authorities are not releasing the name of the injured person, who was listed in critical condition Tuesday night.

Witnesses told investigators that they had been sitting in a vehicle when they heard multiple shots fired by an unknown suspect. The sheriff’s office says the two victims were transported to a local hospital by Aiken County EMS, but Green was pronounced deceased by medical personal after arriving at the hospital.

No suspects have been located yet on this investigation, Capt. Nick Gallam said. The other two men in the car told investigators that they couldn’t identity the shooter.

Green is well known to law enforcement after his arrest in 2015 in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Dantroy Cuthbertson. At the time, Aiken County authorities said Green and a juvenile shot Cuthbertson to death in New Ellenton even as Green was being sought for a burglary. New Ellenton police said Green’s family was hiding him from police at the time of the killing.

In October, the Solicitor’s Office dropped the murder charge against Green for unknown reasons, but charges of burglary and other offenses are still pending, two years after his arrest.
