A 14-year-old girl has died following a traffic accident Friday, Feb. 28 in Aiken County.
Faith Williams, a resident of Warrenville, was fatally injured while riding as a passenger on a dirt bike on the 1600 block of Augusta Road in Aiken County.
According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, at approximately 7:47 p.m., Williams was on a Honda 80R dirt bike traveling north on a sidewalk when it struck a mailbox. The collision caused the dirt bike to spill onto the roadway. At that moment, an unknown vehicle traveling south on Augusta Road struck an object, possibly the fallen dirt bike, damaging the front passenger side of the vehicle before fleeing the scene, authorities said.
Faith Williams was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 p.m. Coroner Darryl Ables confirmed that an autopsy will be performed in Newberry to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are working to determine whether the fatal injuries were caused by the initial dirt bike crash or by the hit-and-run vehicle.
The S.C. Highway Patrol, along with the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), is currently investigating the incident. They are seeking any information that could lead to the identification of the vehicle involved.
In the wake of Faith’s death, her mother, Sammi Lee, and her family are left to mourn the loss of a beloved daughter, sister, and friend.
