A fatality occurred in a residential fire on the 100 block of Hidden Springs Road in Jackson on Sunday afternoon, according to Aiken County authorities.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene at 2:42 p.m., where a female victim was pronounced deceased at 3:45 p.m.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables confirmed that the cause of death remains under investigation. Due to the severity of thermal injuries sustained, an autopsy will be performed in Newberry to determine the official cause of death and assist in the positive identification of the victim.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the ongoing investigation, and authorities will release additional information as it becomes available.
