
Four men have been arrested in connection with the death of 21-year-old Remedee Jennings-Leaphart, the former high school quarterback who was fatally shot in Monetta on Jan. 23.
Latrez Nicholson, 20, Zayvion Abner, 20, Demarion Morris, 19, and Wondrecus Brunson, 23, were arrested Friday in connection with Leaphart’s death. All four men face charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 100 block of Pine Circle in Monetta after receiving reports of gunfire. Authorities later learned that Leaphart had been transported to a medical clinic in Batesburg-Leesville, where he was then taken by ambulance to Lexington Medical Center. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Sheriff Michael Sawyer stated, “Investigators and the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office worked tirelessly on this case. Their hard work has led to the arrest of four suspects.”
As the investigation continues, authorities said additional charges may be forthcoming.
According to his obituary, Leaphart graduated from Ridge Spring-Monetta High School on 2022. He played football, basketball and baseball, and he broke multiple school records. He worked for Shaw Industries for two years and enjoyed producing music in his spare time.
