Richmond County officers are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured Friday evening in Augusta.
At approximately 6:55 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 1000 block of Amli Way in The Jasper apartment complex. They found two men who had each been shot at least once.
Both victims were transported to the hospital, where one later died from his injuries, sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry said in a press release. The other remains hospitalized and is receiving treatment for his wounds.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation is still in its early stages. No names were released, nor any mention of a suspect or motive.
The killing marks the county’s 48th homicide of the year, with still a month to go in the year. There were 38 homicides last year.
The killing also follows a double homicide Wednesday afternoon on Mystic Lane in Augusta. In that case, Tony Horne, 46, has been charged with fatally shooting his brother and sister-in-law, William Horne, 49, and Carol Horne, 52.
