An Augusta teen has been identified as the victim in Saturday’s fatal shooting inside The Pointe at Augusta apartments on Acapulco Drive.

Elijah Oliver, 19, succumbed to his injuries after being shot at least once in the parking lot of the 2400 block of Acapulco Drive, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

The incident unfolded shortly before 12:46 a.m. Saturday when the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered Oliver, a resident of Augusta, critically injured from gunshot wounds.

Emergency Medical Services rushed Oliver to Wellstar / MCG ER for urgent medical care, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 1:23 a.m. Saturday.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation by local authorities. At this time, no suspects have been identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Bowen has confirmed that an autopsy for Elijah Oliver has been scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of his death, as part of the ongoing investigation.
