An Augusta dummy who tried to use a BB gun to rob an Augusta McDonald’s went away with nothing except a quick arrest, authorities say.

William Ellison McClain, 22, of Augusta, was caught around the corner from the Deans Bridge Road restaurant early today shortly after trying to hold up the restaurant. He walked in around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, pointed a weapon at an employee and demanded cash.

“The employee retreated to the back of the business and the suspect fled the scene on foot,” sheriff’s Sgt. Glen Rahn said in a press release.

The suspect’s description was broadcast and a deputy responding to the scene saw the suspect running from the area and caught him on Spring Grove Rd. without incident.

The young robber was carrying a BB Gun styled to look like a Colt 1911 style pistol, Sgt. Rahn said.

McClain was arrested and charged with criminal attempted armed robbery and probation violation.

The suspect is the same idiot who was driving without a license last month when he hit an unattended vehicle and kept going, authorities said. He then led cops on a short chase before being caught, leading to a charge of attempting to elude police and more. Those charges are still pending.

McClain is on probation for possession of a controlled substance. A Facebook page for William McClain has two old posts that reveal a little bit about him:

  • “I’am high is hell right now”
  • “IT AINT WAT YOU DO ITS HOW YOU DO IT . NOONE ON DIS EARTH ARE PERFECT .”

An Aiken County homeowner shot one of the burglars who tried to rob him during a home invasion in Windsor early Tuesday, a move the sheriff quickly supported.

The home invasion on Cedar Road led to the quick arrest of four people, including Dontrell Washington-Allison, who was shot in the shoulder and stomach by homeowner Emilio Rojas.

“I support Mr. Rojas’ actions and the rights of homeowners to defend their families, property and themselves,” Sheriff Michael Hunt said in a press release.

The victim will not be charged for shooting the suspect.

Deputies say three suspects broke into Rojas’ home, demanding money and striking him several times in the head with a weapon. Rojas and family members told authorities that they fought with the suspects and that during the altercation Rojas was able to retrieve his pistol and shoot one of the subjects.

During the incident, one of the other subjects was able to take Rojas’ pistol, some cash and a cell phone. The subjects then ran from the home.

The Aiken County Blood Hound Tracking Team and Investigators responded to the residence. While the perimeter was established one of the subjects, 21-year-old Eric Hurkes was apprehended by Deputies on Wren Road. Three more subjects were arrested at Aiken Regional Medical Center, including Allison, who was there for treatment of two non-life threatening gunshot.

Two other subjects, 23-year-old Kira Marie Bryant and 20-yer-old Jevarius Delonte Allison who were at ARMC, were also arrested for involvement in the home invasion.

All suspects were transported to the Aiken County Detention Center and have been charged with burglary, armed robbery and weapon possession.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety assisted in this investigation.

Allison, the man who was shot, is the same man charged in 2013 in the golf cart thefts in the Hammonds Ferry area of North Augusta.

A man wearing only a gray T-shirt stopped a 78-year-old woman last Sunday and showed her his genitals, asking her if she like it “hard or soft,” authorities said.

The woman, who was out walking her dog on Aiken’s Troon Way, recognized the man from a nearly identical incident, which occurred months earlier. This time, she was able to get his license plate number, the report said.

Benjamin Taylor Bilton, 20, of Aiken was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of indecent exposure, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

This isn’t the first time Biltmore’s first arrest for a sex crime.

In October 2014, he was busted at his job at Academy Sports for holding a cell phone camera under a dressing room door while a female customer tried on clothes, the report said.

He was charged with Peeping Tom in that incident.

He told officers he was “simply picking up a hat hook in the dressing room.”

A man who works as a prison guard for the McCormick Correctional Institution remained in a Columbia County Jail on Tuesday morning after brutally beating his wife’s former lover Sunday outside her Martinez home.

Cover Issue 714(For more crime news, pick up this week’s Jail Report at local convenience stores.)

Devan Harrison, 24, of Lincolnton, found out the victim was knocking on the door of his estranged wife’s Colonial Road home and rushed over to the residence.

According to a sheriff’s report, Harrison took off his shirt and put in a MMA mouth protector. Harrison told deputies that he asked the man to leave, but the man smirked at him, so Harrison pushed him toward his car.

The suspect said he feared for his own safety, so he jumped on the victim’s back before the man could gain his footing. Harrison said he placed a “blood choke” on the man, and they both fell to the ground.

Harrison said he felt the man was in a dominant position on him, so he punched the man three times in his right eye and once in the stomach. When the victim “jolted upright,”  Harrison punched him again.

When deputies talked to the victim at Doctors Hospital, the man had a different story. He said he went to the woman’s home to talk to her. Harrison arrived and put him in a chokehold and punched him. The victim then left and drove to the hospital. The victim suffered fractures along his orbital bone, and his right eye was swollen shut, according to medical staff at Doctor’s Hospital.

According to Harrison, his wife had a sexual relationship with the victim in the past. Harrison said he received a text from his wife that she would not talk to the man anymore. On Sunday, Harrison said he got a text from her saying her former lover was at her house.

In a statement listed in the sheriff’s report, the wife did not confirm or deny that story.

Harrison was charged with aggravated battery. A sheriff’s report says Harrison works at the state prison in McCormick, S.C.

“Appropriate action will be taken when we have all the facts and can make an informed decision,” said Stephanie Givens, Communications Director for the S.C. Department of Corrections. “I do know that Officer Harrison reported the incident to his shift caption within a 24 hour period as is required by policy.”

If this Hephzibah man’s face looks messed up, it’s because he was shocked with a taser four times on Sunday.

Daniel Odell, 30, of Hephzibah, was stopped on a construction site for New Sage Creek Apartments and asked what he was doing there. He told a deputy that he was “taking a short cut through the property,” according to a sheriff’s report.

(More crime news appears in this week’s Jail Report. Cover: http://bit.ly/1iwHr4h)

When the deputy ran the man’s name through the computer system, he realized the suspect was wanted on an outstanding warrant. So he asked Odell to put his hands on the hood of the patrol car.

Odell ran. The deputy told him to stop or he would be tasered, but the suspect kept running. When the deputy shot the Taser at the man’s back, Odell fell down face first.

“Odell fought through the effects of the taser and rolled onto his back attempting to sit up,” the deputy said in his report. “When Odell rolled over he had pulled out a fixed blade knife from his pocket as he was attempting to get up. Odell kept trying to get up and refused my orders to show his hands. I had to deploy my taser 3 more times to keep Odell from picking the knife back up and to place him into custody.”

Odell was then arrested for obstruction and the order to show cause.

Repo Man Hits Augusta Teen with Car Over Saggy Pants

A local repo man struck an Augusta teen with his car Tuesday following a dispute over the youth’s saggy pants, according to authorities.

Jeffery Blaine Carter II, 33 (mugshot), of McCormick Road, Martinez, was charged with reckless conduct and battery.

Jamesian Gibbons victimThe teen, 19-year-old Jamesian Gibbons (Twitter photo, right), told authorities he was walking home from his girlfriend’s house on Peach Orchard Road at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when he heard Carter shout: “Pull up your pants!”

“Whatever,” Gibbons replied.

“You better pull up your pants boy,” he quoted Carter as saying. “I’m a police officer.”

Gibbons said he kept walking but Carter demanded he return since he was a cop.  So the teen turned around and walked back towards Carter because he didn’t know if he was a real officer. He asked the man to see his badge, but Carter said no.  Carter began yelling at him and telling the youth that he needed to do as he was told, a sheriff’ report says.

“You not a real cop,” Gibbons said. “You don’t have a computer in your car. You just have a GPS.”

The teen says Carter then spit in his face, so the victim punched Carter, leading to a fight. Gibbons allegedly struck the teen with a flashlight, which broke from the impact, a sheriff’s report says.

Then, Carter got into his vehicle and hit the teen, but not hard since the victim jumped to the side as the car was coming, the report says. The second time, Gibbons jumped in the air because the car was coming fast. He lost his step on the hood and fell into the windshield and rolled off onto the ground.

When Carter backed up again, the  teen ran to a couple nearby for help.

The suspect has a different story, saying that he did not hit Gibbons with this car, but was backing up to get away. In fact, the suspect claims the teen started the entire incident when he approached Carter’s vehicle and asked if he was a cop. Carter says the teen spit on his vehicle, punched him through the open window, and kicked the door. When Carter threatened to call police, the youth “stepped up onto the hood of his vehicle and started kicking the windshield until it shattered,” Carter told authorities.

Carter said he got back into his vehicle and backed up all the way around to the other side of the building and got out of the car and walked down the street.

However, a married couple who witnessed the incident said they saw Carter punching the teen before the suspect got into his vehicle and pulled forward, hitting Gibbons.

“Mr. Carter backed up and pulled forward trying to run over Mr. Gibbons,” a sheriff’s report says, quoting the couple. “(The male witness) stated that Mr. Gibbons jumped onto the hood of the vehicle to avoid being hit but he slipped and fell into the windshield shattering it. He stated that Mr. Carter went to back up again and that’s when he and his wife jumped from their vehicle and told him to stop.”

Carter was arrested on the scene and taken to jail, where he remained Thursday morning.

Gibbons refused EMS on the scene for his injuries.

Martinez Man Scammed in Online Puppy Purchase

A Martinez man lost over $1,000 while trying to purchase a chihuahua puppy over the Internet.

According to the sheriff’s office, the 50-year-old victim said he went online to purchase a chihuahua puppy on Sept. 10. He was contacted by email and telephone about his interest in purchasing a puppy and advised by email that the cost was $300 for the puppy and $150 for shipping.

The man agreed to buy a male puppy for a special at $200 and paid a total of $350 at a Western Union Bank by transferring a cash deposit to Emmanuel Carter in Newark, Delaware.

Four days later, the victim received an email telling him that there was a problem with the shipping company because they needed $660 transferred directly to Emmanuel Carter in order to process the insurance papers and cage fee. When the victim received multiple phone calls about this second money transfer, he stated he was told the puppy would be turned over to “Pets Rescue Group” if he did not send in the money. The scammers said the Martinez man could be charged $10,000 if that happened because he abandoned the puppy, which was registered under his name as the owner.

So the victim transferred $660 because he “was scared of being charged for the abandonment,” a sheriff’s report says.

The victim was told to send the receipt in the mail as proof of his transaction, but they refused to give him an actual address.

On Sept. 15, the victim got another email, demanding more money. It said, “Assistant Director says puppy must be re-vaccinated since vaccines given yesterday are already expired, lasts 12 hours. Vaccines will cost $260 for 2 days that puppy has been here and $120 for feeding and accommodation. Once paid then the puppy will leave.”  The victim was told to send this wire transfer to a different subject, Melvin Bernard, in Newark, Delaware.

This time, the victim wised up. He didn’t send the money and contacted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office instead. An investigation is underway.

“Is the driver here in this Country legally?” asked Facebook reader Beatrice Nicols.

Murder: Augusta Woman Leaves Godchild in Hot Truck

An Augusta woman has been charged with murder and child cruelty after leaving her 8-month-old god baby in a hot truck Sunday and falling asleep inside her home, leading to the girl’s death.

Latoya Louise Bell, 31, is a cousin and godmother of Ja’Karheyonna Hougues-Double (right picture)Baby victim. She asked the child’s family if she could keep the baby for a while on Sunday, authorities said.

“She had gotten the baby about 8 o’clock in the morning,” Coroner Mark Bowen said. “The baby was found in the truck around 5 p.m.”

The coroner said the child was found strapped in the car seat in the truck on the 3900 block of Old Waynesboro Road. The baby was driven to University Hospital by a relative and after an attempt to save the child failed, she was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m. Sunday.

According to a warrant, the victim “sustained a body temperature of 108 degrees and visible burns.” Weather data shows the temperature in Augusta was 92 degrees at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators say Bell left the child in the vehicle, entered her residence and fell asleep, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Monica Belser.

Bowen said it was a hard death to handle.

“That was tough,” he said. “It’s never easy, but especially when it’s a young child.”

Bowen said the child’s mother works at 5 in the morning, and the child is usually watched by the great-grandmother. But when Bell asked to take the child for the day, the great-grandmother agreed and even let Bell use her truck. There are reports Bell took the child to church, but authorities are still investigating what happened later in the day.

The great-grandmother sent her granddaughter down to Bell’s home to check on the baby and found her in the truck, Bowen said. It appears she had been there for “several hours,” Bowen said.

An autopsy is planned for later Monday, but it could be Tuesday since the GBI lab in Atlanta is backed up.

Bell remains in the Richmond County Jail without bond.

A Georgia DNR ranger shot a suicidal man dead in Grovetown on Sunday before he knew sheriff’s deputies were responding to the depressed subject, authorities said.

The GBI has been asked to investigate the officer-involved shooting, which occurred on Baker Place Road in Grovetown.

Authorities say the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 8 p.m. Sunday concerning a suicidal subject walking on foot in the area of Baker Place Road.

While deputies were responding to the area, a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Ranger was also in the area conducting an unrelated investigation and was unaware of the 911 call concerning the suicidal subject.

According to GBI’s Pat Morgan, “The DNR ranger made contact with the subject on Baker Place Road and during the encounter the subject produced a handgun. The DNR Ranger fired his firearm striking the subject. The subject was transported to Doctors Hospital in Augusta, where he died as a result of his injuries. The DNR Ranger was not injured during the incident.”

The subject is identified as 28-year-old David Sean Owens, 28, of Grovetown.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete it will be turned over to the Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for any action they deem appropriate, Morgan said.

UPDATED: 2 ARRESTS MADE IN KILLING, WHICH WAS DRUG-RELATED.
Link: http://augustacrime.com/augusta-murder-was-drug-related-2-arrested/
Original story: A Columbia County man was found dead in Augusta Monday night, and authorities have identified at least two suspects in the slaying.

Maurice Grant FacebookMaurice Lamar Grant, 39, of Harlem (pictured above and at right), was found dead on Crawfordville Court last night after deputies responded to an assault. He was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. at the scene, Coroner Mark Bowen said in a press release. A cause of death was not listed.

The identities of the two suspects have not been released, and authorities did not immediately return phone calls regarding whether they are in custody.

It’s unclear what Grant was doing in Augusta, but he has a history of criminal charges in Richmond County, including a Peeping Tom incident in 2013 which he later served 90 days in jail under a plea deal.

In that case, officers responded to Bass Avenue on April 15, 2013,  in reference to a home invasion. They found Grant in the back yard of the incident location at 9 in the morning, standing on an air conditioning unit and looking in the kitchen window.

“The victim stated that she heard a voice in the back yard and looked out the window and (Grant) was looking in the kitchen windows,” a report says.

The victim told authorities she had never seen Grant before.

Grant also had a history of simple battery – family violence and violating a protective order against victims in Augusta. In Columbia County, he was previously charged in a 1997 burglary and a 2014 meth possession case.

In an unrelated death, authorities say a dead body was found at 5:19 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Lumpkin Road and Old McDuffie Road in Augusta.

“Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased black male in the road with a gunshot wound,” sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Shane McDaniel Sr. said in a press release.

The coroner has identified the man as 27-year-old Cordeldrick Laquinn Brooks from South Carolina.

“This investigation is in its beginning phases,” Sgt. McDaniel said. “There is no further information at this time.”
