Aiken police are investigating how an out-of-town driver ended up dead after he was found with a gunshot wound inside a car that wrecked into a tree on Thanksgiving morning.
Ty’Netrum J. Smoakes, 34, of Fairfax, S.C., was found with at least one gunshot wound to the body in the driver seat of a Toyota Camry that crashed into a tree on Park Avenue at Fairfield Street in Aiken. He was found about 1:50 a.m. Thursday, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release.
The victim was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries, Ables said. The Coroner’s Office along with the Aiken Department of Public Safety are continuing with the investigation. No arrest or suspect description has been announced.
