Hit & Run Driver Sought in Death of This Martinez Man

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. – A heartless hit & run driver is being sought in the death of a Martinez man who was out jogging Wednesday night on Wheeler Road.

Tim Smith, 22 (pictured), was jogging with a yellow reflective vest around 8 p.m. Wednesday on Wheeler Road facing traffic when he was hit. He was rushed to Doctors Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say a pick-up truck struck Smith, slowed down and then fled east on Wheeler Road toward Flowing Wells.

The vehicle is described as a 2001 Nissan Frontier that is Silver Ice Metallic Color. It may look like one of the two trucks pictured here. The truck sustained damage to the hood and front-end on the right side.

If anyone can identify the driver of the this vehicle, please contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office immediately. 706-541-2800.

Sadly, Smith had just helped someone involved in a hit & run Sunday. According to a post on his Facebook page, he got blood on his hands and clothes while helping someone in a hit & run.

He posted this message with a photo of his bloody hand: “The glory of scrubbing your hands multiple times to get someone else’s blood off your hands and throwing away clothes because people in Augusta don’t know how to act right! Smmfh. PS.. if you hit someone with your car f***ing stop!! RIP my damn clothes.”

Smith’s Facebook page also says he owned a car detailing business called Smith’s Mobile Detailing & More!!

Note: If you have a better photo of Tim Smith or something to share, please text it to The Jail Report at 803-487-3224.
