An employee of an Augusta daycare company was arrested Friday on charges that he left a 10-year-old autistic boy in a vehicle while visiting friends, according to a sheriff’s report.

Michael Alexander Brown, an employee of Lizzy Adult Daycare, was charged with deprivation of a minor.

Brown’s arrest was made over month after the incident occurred. At 8:43 p.m. on March 29, a deputy was called to Jones Street for a child left inside a vehicle unattended. Duty Kenneth Mercer found the 10-year-old child locked inside a 2001 Gold Toyota Avalon (like the one pictured below).

The boy is autistic and appeared to have been left for “an unknown period of time,” a sheriff’s report says. Brown – a “caregiver” with Lizzy Adult Daycare – later returned and said the boy was a client in his custod. He claimed that he left the boy with another man while he went inside the Family Y to meet some friends, a report says.

toyota-avalon-2001-9“Brown stated that he was unaware that (the other man) apparently left the child inside the vehicle while he was inside the Family Y, and his whereabouts are unknown,” the deputy’s report says.

The child’s mother was notified and came to the Jones Street to get her son. The Department of Family and Children Services was notified and Melvin Parker with Lizzy Adult Daycare was also notified.

The Jail Report tried calling Lizzy Adult Daycare several times for comment, but a fax machine answered and we were unable to leave a message.
