If this Hephzibah man’s face looks messed up, it’s because he was shocked with a taser four times on Sunday.
Daniel Odell, 30, of Hephzibah, was stopped on a construction site for New Sage Creek Apartments and asked what he was doing there. He told a deputy that he was “taking a short cut through the property,” according to a sheriff’s report.

When the deputy ran the man’s name through the computer system, he realized the suspect was wanted on an outstanding warrant. So he asked Odell to put his hands on the hood of the patrol car.
Odell ran. The deputy told him to stop or he would be tasered, but the suspect kept running. When the deputy shot the Taser at the man’s back, Odell fell down face first.
“Odell fought through the effects of the taser and rolled onto his back attempting to sit up,” the deputy said in his report. “When Odell rolled over he had pulled out a fixed blade knife from his pocket as he was attempting to get up. Odell kept trying to get up and refused my orders to show his hands. I had to deploy my taser 3 more times to keep Odell from picking the knife back up and to place him into custody.”
Odell was then arrested for obstruction and the order to show cause.
