An Augusta mother made her 13-year-old son sleep outside on a concrete patio for repeatedly missing curfew. The punishment was creative and criminal, according to authorities.
Antonia Folsom, 34, was charged Tuesday with deprivation of a minor.
Deputies were called Tuesday to a fight at 3468 Monte Carlo Drive where the teen told deputies he had been locked out of the house for 16 straight hours, since 9:15 p.m. on Memorial Day.
The boy said his curfew was 9 p.m., but he didn’t come home on time. When he came home, his mother had locked the doors.
“He knocked multiple times. She came to the door and told him that she was tired of him coming home late and for him to find somewhere else to go,” a sheriff’s report says. “She kept all of the doors as well as windows locked so that he could not get in the residence.”
The teen’s older brother gave him a pillow and blanket without his mother’s permission.
“The victim stated that he continued to knock on the door with no response and was forced to sleep on the concrete patio in the back yard,” the report says.
At one point on Monday night, the teen told his mother that he was having trouble breathing, and she reportedly told him “Now you know how I feel,” and she refused to allow him in.
The mother went to work Tuesday morning and still kept the teen locked out.
Deputies contacted the Department of Family and Children Services, and both teenage children were turned over to their grandmother. Folsom was arrested and taken to jail.
