In anticipation of the holiday weekend and the onset of the summer months, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is reminding parents to be aware of the safety of their children as they drop them off at movies and other venues.
“We would like for parents to be prompt in delivering and picking up their children so they are not loitering for an excessive amount of time in parking lots and disrupting nearby businesses,” sheriff’s Lt. Allan Rollins said in a press release. “Our main concern is with the safety of these teens and the potential for harm from running into traffic, congregating with strangers, or simply being left alone for an extended amount of time.
“We have anticipated some of these events and will have enhanced patrols by deputies at various locations throughout the summer starting with Regal Cinemas this holiday weekend. Be assured these patrols are intended to insure safety and security but will address all of these issues,” the press release stated.
“As part of the support required for these patrols, the D.U.I van will be available as an onsite office as parents are contacted.”
