A domestic incident involving an armed man prompted the evacuation of several homes on Indian Trail Court early Friday morning, as Richmond County deputies and the S.W.A.T. Team responded to a standoff that ended without injuries.
Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block around 1 a.m. Friday after a woman reported her 70-year-old husband was inside their home with a firearm and possibly experiencing a medical or mental health crisis. As deputies entered the residence, they heard two gunshots and were unable to persuade the man to come out, authorities said in a press release.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team was called to the scene, and nearby residents were temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution. S.W.A.T. officers successfully entered the home and apprehended the man without further incident.
He was transferred to medical personnel at the scene and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. All residents have since returned to their homes, the press release says.
No injuries were reported, and no further details have been released.
