Columbia County authorities are investigating the death of a 4-month-old girl who was found unresponsive at a home day care on Fieldstone Drive in Grovetown on Thursday.
According to Maj. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the woman operating the day care told deputies she laid the baby down to sleep on a bed in the master bedroom around 10:30 a.m. She said she discovered the child unresponsive approximately two hours later.
The woman called 911 and began performing CPR. The infant was transported to Doctors Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Morris said.
Sheriff’s investigators interviewed the child’s parents at the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab in Atlanta to determine the exact cause of death.
