The identity of the toddler who died under suspicious circumstances in an Augusta home earlier this week has been released, as the boy’s mother took to social media to mourn the loss and ask for prayers.
Trae’son Dunn, a 16-month-old boy, was found unresponsive early Tuesday morning inside a 2-bedroom home in the 2200 block of Ward Avenue. According to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen, he was pronounced dead at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday. An autopsy has been scheduled. Bowen classified the death as suspicious.
A second child, age 3, was also taken to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia for precautionary measures, not because of any injury, authorities said.
Richmond County authorities say they are awaiting results of the autopsy and toxicology results and no charges have been filed against the child’s mother and father, who both live in the home.
The toddler’s mother, Genysis Mortley, shared her heartbreak in a Facebook post alongside photos of her son:
“My heart is broken. I lost my heart and soul. I am sick to my stomach. I am [numb]. Please pray for us,” she wrote.
Just months earlier, in December, Mortley had shared a joyful post about her son’s christening:
“Today was a very special day as our little man Trae’son Dunn was officially christened. I’m grateful to be with my beautiful, growing family … I wish Trae’son’s big sister and brother could have been there. I promise to have all my kids together.”
