A murder suspect on the run since 2022 was captured Friday during a traffic stop in Augusta and will face charges alongside his mother and another woman.
Ricardo Sanchez Daggett, 21, was captured during a traffic stop on Royal Street in Augusta. He faces charges in the Nov. 20, 2022, homicide of Ahmed Jabari Hill Sr., who was 46 at the time of death. The fatal shooting occurred at 3522 Tullocks Hill Drive, where both the suspect and the victim resided.
This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Daggett’s mother, 40-year-old Angel Burley, and Stephanie Overton, 38, both of whom were charged in 2022 for their roles in the incident.
Overton was a pre-kindergarten teacher at Lake Forest Hills Elementary School at the time of her arrest, authorities said.
After the arrests, many in the community argued that Daggett was protecting his mother at the time of the killing. Authorities have not commented on that possible defense.
Daggett’s arrest went down with the help of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division.
Daggett was wanted on a grand jury arrest warrant for murder and weapon possession. A new mugshot was not immediately available.
Hill was shot in the right leg in 2022 and later died at Augusta University Medical Center from his injuries. His death marked one of two homicides in Augusta that weekend, amid a broader surge in violent crime across the region at the time, authorities said. The Hill family has been notified of Daggett’s arrest.
Sheriff Eugene Brantley praised the ongoing efforts of law enforcement partnerships.
“Our continued collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Task Force and federal partners like ATF is vital to ensuring justice is served,” the sheriff said in a press release. “We’ve made it a priority to locate and arrest those responsible for past homicides, and today’s arrest is another step forward. Everyone deserves a safe Augusta in which to live, work, and play – and that is our mission.”
