A family is grieving the loss of 37-year-old Jermaine Habersham, who tragically died Sunday afternoon following an accidental shooting in Augusta.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. on the 1500 block of 15th Street. According to RCSO Sergeant John Perry, the shooting happened when an adult male suspect was reportedly showing a handgun to Habersham. The weapon discharged accidentally, striking Habersham in the chest. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, rushed Habersham to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Coroner’s Office confirmed that Jermaine Habersham was pronounced dead at Wellstar MCG Hospital at 6:40 p.m. Sunday. An autopsy has been scheduled. Authorities have recovered the handgun, and the suspect is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. However, further details about the incident are still being examined.

As the family comes to terms with this devastating loss, they have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses and support the future of Jermaine’s children. The page, created by Shantrice Clay, honors Jermaine’s life and the legacy he leaves behind.

In the emotional tribute, the family remembers Jermaine as a loving father, a hardworking man who dedicated himself to his children’s happiness and well-being. He was known for his warmth, generosity, and positive spirit, always putting others before himself. Jermaine’s legacy of kindness, wisdom, and joy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

His family is asking for the community’s support during this difficult time. Any donations to the GoFundMe account will help provide for Jermaine’s children and assist with funeral costs.
