A Hephzibah teen was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon outside the Family Dollar store on Laney Walker Boulevard in Augusta, authorities said. Two suspects have been arrested.
Damien Patrick, 19, was shot at least one time and rushed by private vehicle to Piedmont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said. An autopsy is scheduled.
Investigators located and detained suspects Kyadiar Oliver, 19, and Madison Lewis Jr., 21, both of Augusta. The suspects were transported to the Criminal Investigation Division and interviewed. Both suspects will be charged with the murder. Their mugshots were not immediately available.
The shooting was reported at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on the sidewalk right near the discount business. It quickly became Richmond County’s fifth homicide of the year with his death. There were four homicides at this point last year, with the final homicide reaching 50 by the end of the year.
Sheriff’s investigators were working on identifying the suspects in the Family Dollar case, but no arrests have been announced.
