An Augusta man once celebrated as a student ambassador at a state college was locked up for rape and kidnapping over the weekend after the alleged victim said she woke up with him having sex with her.

Santo Aliezer Nina III, 29, was charged Saturday with the felony offenses after investigators interviewed the woman at Wellstar MCG Hospital and heard her account.

The woman said she and a friend met the suspect and his friend at a local bar Thursday night for drinks. She said she didn’t remember going to his home, but she woke up there with the suspect on top of her having sex. She said he took her keys and her cell phone once she tried to leave his residence after the sex act, and he drove her to her car.

Video footage from the bar was reviewed by officers and showed the suspect escorting the woman out of the bar and blocking the door when she tried to return inside, authorities said.

Nina was arrested on Saturday and held without bond at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

According to his Facebook page, he went to Albany State University, where he was named Mr. Albany State in 2017, serving as a student ambassador. He also played football for Glenn Hills High School. He was described by 247 Sports as “a 6-2, 195-pound Pro-Style Quarterback from Augusta, GA.”
