A suspect in the July 2024 murder of 54-year-old Argie Jones has been arrested after a standoff in Moultrie, Georgia.

Jaden Polite, 24, was taken into custody Thursday evening following a joint effort by the U.S. Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials tracked Polite to a residence in Moultrie, where he barricaded himself inside. After a brief standoff, he surrendered peacefully. A search of the home turned up two handguns, a shotgun, gas masks, ecstasy, and a large quantity of marijuana.=, authorities said.

Polite’s arrest follows the capture of another suspect, 18-year-old Tracy Martin, earlier this week. Martin, from Augusta, was arrested on Wednesday for his involvement in the murder.

Sheriff Eugene Brantley praised the efforts of the local, state, and federal agencies involved, noting that removing violent criminals from the streets remains a top priority. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office also provided crucial support during Martin’s arrest, including the use of their SWAT Team.

The U.S. Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, which includes two members from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, played a key role in locating and apprehending both suspects. The investigation continues as authorities work to ensure justice for the victim and his family.

Sheaquain Winters previously shared the tragic story of his mother, Argie Jones. He said Jones struggled with drug addiction and lived as a homeless person.

Raised primarily by his grandmother, Sheaquain hadn’t seen Argie in six years and described their chaotic interactions during her visits, marked by her struggles with crack cocaine and heroin. He found out about her death from his brother, and the family felt a growing concern for her well-being when they didn’t hear from her around her grandmother’s birthday.

Anyone with information on fugitives or ongoing investigations is urged to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080 or call 911.
