An Augusta man was fatally shot inside his home early Saturday, marking the county’s fourth homicide this year.
Davonta Lamar McCloud, 30, was shot at least one time inside his residence on the 1900 block of Higdon Street and pronounced dead at 5:07 a.m. Saturday, Coroner Mark Bowen said. A second man, 31-year-old Omar Ikea Andrews, was also shot and taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
An autopsy has been scheduled. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not provided any suspect information or a possible motive.
McCloud was remembered online under the nickname “Shoota McCloud,” with Brittney Nicole saying, “A smile that could brighten up the entire room.”
This homicide marks the fourth in Augusta this year, compared to three at this time last year, though the county ended 2024 with a record 50 homicides under former Sheriff Richard Roundtree.
