A deadly shooting at Oak Pointe Apartments in Augusta on Thursday evening has left one man dead and triggered online threats of retaliation.

The victim was identified Friday as Zaytreonta Boyd, 27, from Augusta. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on the 700 block of East Chapman Street, has been ruled the city’s 42nd homicide of the year. There were 38 homicides total last year.

Richmond County deputies responded to the scene and found an adult male victim who had been shot at least once. Sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boyd was remembered on Facebook by So Bodacious Queen as a calm and humble man. “I WATCHED U GROW FROM A BOY TO A YOUNG MAN,” she said. “SORRY THIS HAPPENED TO U… U NEVER BOTHERED NOBODY ALWAYS BY YOSELF NO TROUBLE… U WAS A GOOD KID N MY EYES.”

The shooting has sparked anger and threats of retaliation on social media. One Facebook user posted, “The City Gone Feel This S**t,” warning of consequences for the crime.

During the investigation, an eyewitness streamed a live video on Facebook, showing deputies struggling with a man and slamming him to the ground while a crowd gathered around the scene. A local resident identified the man as Boyd’s uncle, but that has not been confirmed.

This latest shooting occurred on the same street where a fatal shooting took place four months ago. In July, 41-year-old Willie Lee Gonder was killed in a shooting on East Chapman Street.

That case remains unsolved. Gonder was reportedly living in Evans at the time of his death, according to his family members.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents.
