A stabbing at a Martinez residence early Tuesday morning resulted in the arrest of a suspect and left the victim in stable condition.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to 4759 Maple Springs Court following reports of a stabbing. The victim, identified as Chente Raymundo, was found at the scene and subsequently transported to Doctor’s Hospital. He is currently reported to be in stable condition.
According to Maj. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, two of Raymundo’s roommates, Juan Carlos Perez Gutierrez and Carlos Diaz Santiz, were interviewed by authorities. The roommates reported that they were asleep when they were startled by an altercation occurring outside their bedroom.
Shortly thereafter, Raymundo and the suspect, identified as “Marco,” crashed through the roommates’ bedroom door. Gutierrez and Santiz witnessed Marco, later identified as Lucio Hernandez DeLaCruz, stabbing Raymundo but were unable to determine the cause of the altercation. They alerted the other roommates and remained in their rooms during the incident.
The suspect, 30-year-old Lucio Hernandez DeLaCruz, was apprehended around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Columbia Road, not far from the scene of the stabbing. DeLaCruz was found in possession of a black bookbag containing bloody clothing. He has been charged with aggravated assault and weapon possession.
Authorities say they had to use a deputy to interpreter to speak with the witnesses and victims. Their immigration status is also being investigated.
