The coroner has announced the death of an elderly man who was shot inside his Augusta home last month.
Larry Drayton, 73, of 1928 Gay Drive, died Aug. 26 at Pruitt Healthcare Nursing Facility, where he had been transferred following the Aug. 9 shooting. The man’s death was announced in a press release sent Tuesday.
According to Coroner Mark Bowen, Drayton was shot at least one time on Aug. 9 at the home on the 1900 block of Gay Drive.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office did not announce the initial shooting and has not released any details on a suspect or motive in the homicide.
Meanwhile, a celebration of life for Drayton will be held on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the C. A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314 Laney Walker Blvd A, Augusta.
The victim was remembered online by friends and family.
