A Cross Creek High School student was arrested Thursday after bringing a gun to school and showing it off to friends.
Nazhey Grant, 17, was charged Thursday with felony weapon in school building and two misdemeanors, disrupting public school and possession of a handgun by a person under 18.
Authorities say Grant brought the olive green pistol to school in a book bag and was in class showing it off. His classmates informed administrators of the gun.
A letter was sent Thursday to parents from Principal LaQuanda Carpenter, confirming that a tip led them to conduct the search and confiscate the weapon. She encouraged parents to discuss school safety with their child about not bringing inappropriate items to school. A system tip line is available for safety concerns: 706-828-0177.
The Cross Creek incident comes two weeks after a student brought a gun to Butler High School. On Aug. 9, Butler administrators received a report that a student may have a weapon. A search uncovered the weapon and it was confiscated. That incident was addressed by RCSS Police and the Code of Student Conduct and Discipline, the district said in a letter to parents.
