A domestic violence suspect is recovering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound that followed a chase with Columbia County officers in which he shot at them, authorities said.

No Columbia County deputies were injured, according to sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris.

Bradley Keith Gooding, 41, was being chased late Saturday by deputies as he fled the scene of a reported domestic violence incident at 1157 Rolland Road in Harlem, Georgia. He lives there.

Officers were chasing his 1990 Acura when the incident turned violent, Maj. Morris said.

“Bradley continued traveling on Old Louisville Road until its intersection with Jaime Drive. At that time, Bradley left the roadway and crashed,” Maj. Morris said in a press release. “Upon approaching the vehicle, Bradley appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.”

The suspect was rushed to Wellstar MCH Health Hospital, where he was in ICU in stable condition on Sunday afternoon. He is facing charges of aggravated assault, felony fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and battery – family violence.
