An Aiken man died early Saturday at a local hospital after being shot on Bettis Academy Road in Graniteville, authorities said.
Richard Carroll, 23, was pronounced dead at 2:32 a.m. by physicians at Wellstar MCG from a gunshot wound to the body, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.
Aiken County investigators are asking for the public’s help in the homicide.
“Preliminary information identified the intersection of Sage Creek Blvd and Bettis Academy Road as the location where the shooting happened,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta University Police Department are assisting with this investigation.

Carroll will be autopsied in Newberry. He was remembered online by his nickname of “Drek.”
