A Warrenville methhead was apprehended on Memorial Day after a crime spree that escalated to carjacking of a vehicle with a woman in the passenger seat.
Repeat offender Caleb Nicholas Winburn, 27, is currently on probation through 2026 for drug possession. But he began his Memorial Day crime spree around lunchtime by allegedly shooting into an unoccupied vehicle at B&H Self Storage on East Pine Log Road in Aiken, according to sheriff’s Staff Sgt. Steve Shunn.
Soon after that, the suspect went to C&C Automotive where he stole vehicle keys and pointed a gun at a victim before fleeing to another business.
“At the next business, the suspect stole a black in color SUV with a female victim who was in the passenger seat,” Sgt, Shunn said. “The victim was let out of the vehicle down the road unharmed by the suspect.”
Deputies spotted the stolen vehicle and chased the suspect to Banks Mill Road and Citadel Drive, where a tire-deflation device was successfully deployed by Aiken Department Public Safety officers. Deputies chased the suspect to Banks Mill Road and Talatha Church Road where the suspect left the vehicle and ran into the wood line.
Winburn was taken into custody and driven to jail awaiting charges of carjacking, kidnapping, pointing and presenting a firearm, and malicious injury to personal property.
