Authorities are investigating a tragic accident that killed a 3-year-old Warrenville girl.
Jasmine Denise Mikell died Sunday from injuries suffered when a birdbath fell on her at her home, according to authorities. Online records show the family lives at 1722 Augusta Road.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables confirmed the death on Wednesday and said his office was joining the sheriff’s office Special Victim’s Unit and SLED in looking into the death.
“Whenever a child fatality occurs, SLED investigates those as well,” the coroner said.
The date of the accident is unclear, but Jasmine was pronounced dead Sunday at Augusta University Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Ables said. An autopsy will be conducted.
Daughter of Alex Baxter and Brianna Jazmine Mikell, the girl was remembered for bringing joy to anyone she met. Jasmine loved honey grahams, candy, swimming, and trips to the park, according to an obituary. She was survived by her parents as well as five siblings.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at the Gloverville Community Park and at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Langley Pond Recreation Area.
Her aunt, Kayla Wyatt, has organized a GoFundMe page to raise money for a satin red dress requested by her father. She says the child went by the nickname “Jazzy.”
