An Augusta woman was stabbed to death over the weekend at her home and her boyfriend has been charged with murder, authorities said.

The victim was identified as 43-year-old Natty Ortiz-Ramos on the 2500 block of Lumpkin Road.

“The victim was stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene” at 2:11 a.m. Monday, Coroner Mark Bowen said in a press release.

The victim and boyfriend Nathan Mims were involved in a domestic dispute when Mims began assaulting Ortiz-Ramos then began stabbing her, sheriff’s Sgt. Shane McDaniel said. “Ortiz-Ramos succumbed to her injuries and passed away.  After the assault Mims stayed at the scene and surrendered to deputies.”

Mims, of the 200 block of Johnson Road in North Augusta, was treated for minor cuts and then booked into the Richmond County Jail for murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

The woman was living at the rented apartment with her small kids, the coroner said. The woman’s body was sent to the Atlanta GBI for an autopsy, which will take place Tuesday.

This is Richmond County’s 8th murder of 2014.

Mims was charged in 2011 with possession of a sawed-off shotgun, theft by taking and simple battery – family violence. Prosecutors decided not to pursue the charges and later dropped them.
