With young kids in his car, an Evans man crossed the center lane of Hardy McManus Road over the summer and caused a devastating wreck that sent both drivers and three juveniles to the hospital, authorities said.
On Friday, Levi Pollard VI was formally charged in that two-car crash that caused the other vehicle to overturn and eject the driver, 61-year-old Randall Tudor. Pollard, who turned 40 since the wreck occurred, was charged Friday with felony serious injury by vehicle and later released on bond.
Pollard was behind the wheel of a 2018 GMC Yukon on the evening of July 2. He had a 7-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl inside. Suddenly, he traveled into the path of the victim’s oncoming GMC Sierra, a pickup truck, which had Tudor and a 15-year-old boy inside.
Pollard struck the front of the truck, sending it around counter-clockwise, striking a mailbox and then over-turning several times. According to a Georgia State Patrol report, the victim’s truck came to an uncontrolled upright rest in the private yard of 4690 Hardy McManus Road.
“(Tudor) was completely ejected as Vehicle 2 overturned,” the report says. “(Pollard) stated he was unsure what happened, but that they struck in the middle of the roadway.”
A witness said Pollard was all over the road, continuing to cross the center line before completely entering Tudor’s lane and hitting the truck. Pollard’s vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest facing west in the private yard of 4696 Hardy McManus Road after hitting a mailbox, the GSP report says.
A check on Pollard’s blood alcohol content was requested, but it’s unclear what the results were. All five people in both vehicles ended up at Doctors Hospital with Tudor suffering the most serious injuries.
